I saw Debra Granik’s film “Leave No Trace” last night and I’m still haunted by it. Beautifully shot in the PNW, it tells the (based on a true) story of a father and daughter who lived undetected for years in Forest Park. They are eventually found and “helped” by the authorities get readjusted to regular life.

Two things struck me throughout the film, first the landscape is so lush, quiet and vast. It almost felt like I was hiking on nearby trails. Second, the relationship between father and daughter is so tender, raw and powerful. Both were important elements to the film, drawing you in and making you fall in love with the outdoors. And then drawing you in with compelling characters and making you fall in love with them too.

Highly recommended!
